The purpose of this document is to describe standards for the use of the Universal Product Code (GTIN) bar codes, in the distribution of beverage alcohol in Canada. In general, the standards comply with internationally accepted GTIN standards. There are minor variations that are noted in “Appendix B”.
The standards were prepared under the auspices of the Canadian Association of Liquor Jurisdictions (CALJ) by the Product Identification Standards Committee (PISC). The committee was made up of representatives of liquor jurisdictions and the supplier community.
